
St. Georges Players
Purpose:
To contribute to the spiritual community of St. George's Episcopal Church, Glenn Dale through the visual and performing arts.
Goals:
- To invite the community-at-large into St. George's Church by sponsoring performances and events in the visual and performing arts
- To provide an venue for local performing artists
- To produce plays and musicals
- To support the liturgy of St George's with liturgical dramas, skits, and music
Governance:
- St. George's Players will exist as a group within St. George's Church.
- St George's players will be governed by a Drama Coordinator and an Advisory Board consisting of 4 individuals. In addition one vestry member will be invited to join the team in a non-voting liaison capacity.
- The Drama Coordinator will preside over all meetings and will be responsible for signing and executing all contracts in the name of St. George's Players.
- The Advisory Board will be responsible for working with the Drama Coordinator in the selection of all productions and activities sponsored by St. George's Players. Each member will have equal voice in the decision-making process.
- St. George's Players will be added to The Church budget as a line item The advisory Board will recommend to the Clergy and the Vestry how monies raised will be dispersed within the overall budget (i.e.: mission, general fund, equipment, performances)
- All accounting will be handled accordingly by The Church treasurer and bookkeeper.
Policies:
- All productions will be cast through open audition.
- Any member of St. George's Church interested in participating will be included. However, all roles will be cast according to the demands and requirements of the role, and no special consideration will be given to a Church member.
- All Productions will cast/staffed by volunteers.
- Proceeds from major productions will be contributed to St. George's Church, however the Drama Coordinator and the Advisory Board will designate the money be dispersed to a) general fund; b) special purchase; c) outreach.
Fundraising:
SGP will conduct some fundraising events throughout the year to benefit the group and offset production expenses. The proposed fundraising activity includes monthly coffee houses (The Green Room) which will provide a entertainment and hospitality once each month.
